CapCO2

Why CapCO2?

The planet is heating up at an alarming rate, the main reason to be found is unprecedented CO2 concentration in our atmosphere. As of 2022 we have breached 415 ppm, while in the 800.000 years prior to the industrial revolution the CO2 concentration stayed within the span between 150 and 300 ppm

By employing a 2-step CO2 to ethanol catalysis approach a more efficient process is obtained where the CO2 scrubbing/loss by the chloro-alkali process is avoided.

In the second electrolysis step, both the Chlorine produced at the one electrode and the ethanol produced at the other, are high value chemicals. Usually for electrolysis operation only one of the products is valuable (e.g water splitting only product hydrogen is valuable).

What is CapCO2?

CapCO2 is a Sino-Danish project supported by Innovation Fund Denmark under the that aims to develop a carbon capture and utilization process and asses its techno-economic viability.

Our objectives in CapCO2 are to:

  • Make a techno-economic assessment of the technology developed in the project.
